Mystic Aquarium Teen Marine Debris Initiative – 2013

Raise awareness about marine debris and preserving marine resources among teen audiences through hands-on participation in a student-led and student-driven workshop for regional high schools students in Connecticut.

Project Abstract

Mystic Aquarium will partner with Maritime Aquarium and regional high schools to raise the issue of marine debris among teen audiences and seek their help in preserving marine resources. will inform and engage its youngest, active advocates– teenage volunteers– in promoting public understanding and stewardship of coastal,marine, and freshwater environments. The primary project deliverables of the Teen Marine Debris(Teen MD) Initiative include: a conference targeting teens currently involved in environmental awareness initiatives, regional networking and professional development opportunities for teens to further present their work, and a marine debris activity and interpretation guide for participants to share with their organizations.
